On June 3, 2024, ICPE, in collaboration with @amity_saket_ Saket, and the Shrunkala organization for sustainable development, hosted a webinar titled “The Importance of Plastic Recycling Today.”
The event aimed to educate students on the different types of plastics, their uses, and the significant impact of plastic waste on the environment.
Around 450 students participated from class I-XII indicating a growing interest in sustainable practices among the youth.
The primary goal was to inform students about the proper disposal and recycling of plastic waste, emphasizing the importance of adopting the 4 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recover. 
Attendees learned about the detrimental effects of plastic waste on oceans and wildlife and the importance of conserving fossil fuels by recycling plastics.
A highlight of the session was a clipping from the movie Mission Mangal, which illustrated how plastic can be repurposed for space projects, thereby underscoring the versatility and potential of recycled plastics. The webinar also stressed how plastic recycling contributes to creating a circular economy, reducing the need for new plastic production, conserving valuable resources, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
The event encouraged active participation through Q&A sessions and interactive polls, where students asked insightful questions about their role in plastic recycling. The resource person adeptly addressed these queries, providing practical advice on how students can contribute to recycling efforts in their daily lives.
The “Importance of Plastics Recycling Today” webinar successfully raised awareness about the significance of recycling plastics. It not only educated attendees on sustainable development goals outlined by UNEP but also inspired them to adopt more sustainable practices. Participants left with valuable insights and a commitment to being part of the solution for a cleaner, greener future.
Also, an e-certificate will be awarded to the students who attended the webinar, recognizing their participation and commitment to environmental sustainability.
